The Certified Dairy at Dixon was one of the several operated under the sponsorship of Medical Milk Commissions. The establishment of these commissions was due to the conviction of doctors that the consumption of impure milk was the cause of high infant mortality. Such Commissions were set up in San Francisco and Oakland. Their function was to authorize a dairy as Certified if its operators accepted certain rigid rules. The Timm Certified Dairy was one of five which operated in the State.. It came to be the largest and most widely known in the United States. Donated by Emma Jane Timm, wife of Henry R. Timm
