Dixon Public Library Historical Collection
The Dixon Public Library's goal is to inspire public awareness and appreciation of the diverse people, places and events that have contributed to our town's evolving history. We collect and preserve our historical heritage through acquisitions and donations of photos and family documents in the belief that an understanding of history can provide individuals and the community with connections to the past, a sense of belonging to the present, and responsibility for the future.
The HISTORIC PHOTOS in the Dixon Public Library Archives Collection are stored in the library archives and may be viewed on this website or at the Library.
To view the photos on this website, you may do a KEYWORD search by the following subjects:
Aerial Views, Agriculture, Business, Churches, Entertainment, Fire Department, Government, Library, May Day/May Fair Organizations, Parades, Peoples, Police Department, Railroads, Residences, Street Scenes, Schools.
You may also search by the actual name of the PERSON or BUSINESS that you are researching: Thomas Dickson, First National Bank, Pardi Market, etc. Proceed to the SEARCH link below.
The 2006 Melville Historical Building Photo Survey was compiled by Hayward S. Melville, member of the Dixon Historical Society with the assistance of Loretta Fletcher and Ann Erwin. You may locate these homes, businesses, schools and churches by doing a KEYWORD search using the name of the street or numerical address or both. All street names must be spelled out, no abbreviations. If you know the name of the original owner of a home, please let us now so we can add that to the description.
We welcome additional photos and documents to add to our collections. If you have original documents, photos or copies of historical material that you would like to donate or loan to have scanned into the Library collection, please contact Library Archivist Shirley Parsons at 707-678-5447 or parsonss@dixonlibrary.com
There is more material in the Library's Historical Collection to assist your research that may be viewed at the Library.
