Who are the Friends of the Dixon Public Library?
|
They are people interested in libraries and the services they provide, in
good literature, and in programs and events which promote use of the Dixon
Library. They are especially
interested in encouraging children and young adults to discover the lifelong
benefits of reading and regular use of the public library. |
What do they do to help?
|
The Friends provide financial contributions which help support the Summer
Reading Program, Winter Reading Program, and Teen Book/Movie Club. They also
occasionally purchase books and equipment for the library. In addition, the
Friends give away new books to Dixon's children at two community events: the
Community Block Party in April, and the Tree Lighting Event in December.
The Friends also provide a $1000 scholarship to a deserving high
school senior every year. |
How do the Friends raise funds?
The Friends run a used book store situated next door
to the library, which is open three or
four days a week. The hours are
listed at the top of this page. They
sell used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and
VHS tapes at very reasonable prices.
All of the profits from the bookstores sales benefit the library.
Two or three times a year, the
Friends hold special book sales as well (which will be listed on the
Library's Calendar on the website).
All of the items for sale have been donated by individuals like you. |
