Library Policies - Emergency Situations

At the discretion of the District Librarian or designated staff member, Dixon Library may be closed should the following emergency situations occur:

Before closing the library, the District Librarian or designated staff member in charge must make every effort to ascertain when the unsafe conditions will be corrected. If it appears that conditions will return to normal within a reasonable time frame, then employees will remain on the job. However, if no reasonable time frame can be guaranteed, and if conditions in the building warrant closure, then employees will be instructed to leave the work site.

Permanent employees may opt to compensate for non-worked hours by using vacation or comp time or by making the time up.

Extra help employees who are scheduled to work after the library has been declared closed due to an emergency situation must be contacted and notified not to come to work. Arrangements may be made for extra help employees to make up non-worked hours.

Should closure extend beyond three days, then, at a special meeting, the Commission must determine employment alternatives for employees eligible for benefits.
