Library Policies - Community Agreements Policy

The Dixon Library shall not enter into any partnership, agreement or contract with any individual, corporation or agency for the purpose of promoting its material or product. This proposal may or may not also include a promise by the individual, corporation or agency to compensate and/or underwrite the library in any way to its endorsement. The Dixon Library, at the request of any individual, corporation or agency, shall not display, distribute or endorse any articles, pamphlets, print or non-print materials of a political, religious, or sectarian nature whose purpose is to influence public opinion or to promote a personal or business agenda.

The Dixon Library operates independently to provide access to print and non-print materials, to in-house public computer access through on-line data bases and/or other software available on the library’s computers and to other cultural and informational types of programs targeted for public attendance.

Requests to donate print or non-print material to the Dixon Library shall also be subjected to the Library/Community Agreements policy. This policy does not preclude the acceptance of donations or gifts to the Dixon Public Library from civic organizations, agencies and/or individuals. If certain conditions accompany any donation, the Dixon Library will accommodate fully the wishes of the donor unless library policies or laws indicate otherwise. This policy does not govern print or non-print materials for the Friends of the Library’s book sales.
