Library Policies - Materials Check Out
Patron registration enables the library to collect information identifying an individual who intends to borrow library materials.
REQUIREMENTS
ADULT PATRONS
Adult patrons may receive a library card and have immediate full borrowing privileges by:
- Completing and agreeing to all the conditions listed on the library card application form
- Presenting a current photo ID and proof of current address. Acceptable address verification includes a piece of mail with a recent postmark
With only one form of ID:
- Only one item may be checked out
- The new card will be mailed to the patron
With no form of ID or address verification
- An application for a new card may be submitted
- No materials may be checked out
- The new card will be mailed to the patron
MINOR PATRONS
Patrons under Age 18
A parent or legal guardian must acknowledge that a minor is getting a card and accept legal responsibility for the minor’s card by signing the application form. Proof of current address is required and, if applicable, a photo ID.
- If the parent or guardian is present, then a minor may receive a library card and have full borrowing privileges when:
- The parent or legal guardian signs the application form thereby agreeing to all the conditions listed on the library card application form
- The minor signs the application form
- The parent or legal guardian presents a current photo ID and proof of current address. Acceptable address verification includes a piece of mail with a recent postmark
With only one form of ID
- Only one item may be checked out
- The new card will be mailed to the parent or legal guardian
With no form of ID or address verification
- An application for a new card may be submitted
- No materials may be checked out
- The new card will be mailed to the parent or legal guardian
- If a parent or legal guardian is not present then
- The minor is given an application form to be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian. When the form is returned, proof of current address such as a piece of postmarked mail must be presented along with the completed application form. At that time, a new library card will be issued and materials may be borrowed.
